Why ∛(…) instead of a rendered bar?

A true overline bar as plain text has to be built from Unicode combining marks, and how solid it looks depends entirely on the paste target's font rendering — it can come out uneven or with visible gaps, especially in Gmail, Google Docs, and Word. Parentheses have no such rendering ambiguity: ∛(…) is plain, ordinary text that pastes identically in every app, including plain-text-only fields.
